Place Massena is the largest public square in Old Nice; Furthermore, most visitors to the city of Nice agree that it is also the most spectacular and representative of all the public squares in the city's historic district. The history of the square dates back to the first half of the 19th century, when the local authorities had to beautify and develop the architectural landscape of the Old Nice district. But the square has only recently obtained the stable appearance and layout of today, since from its construction until 2007 it underwent long periods of restoration and redevelopment.
