The Matisse Museum brings together a vast collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs by the eminent Fauvist artist Henri Matisse. It is housed in the Villa des Arènes, a 17th century villa located in the Cimiez district of Nice.
Matisse and his heirs donated numerous works to this museum which today houses 68 paintings and gouaches, more than 200 drawings and 200 prints, 57 sculptures and nearly 100 photographs. The collection also includes a vast assortment of the artist's personal items, such as ceramics, stained glass and documents. Among his most famous works, you can see “Woman reading”, “Le Bonheur de vivre”, “Les Nus bleus” and “La desserte rouge”.

The second level also houses exhibitions on the history of Nice since the 19th century, including military artifacts dating from before the Second World War. The Museum of Fine Arts invites you to discover a remarkable collection of works which covers the history of art from the 16th to the 20th century, and which continues to be enriched by donations. In 1928, the museum took up residence in a magnificent residence built by the Ukrainian princess Kotchoubey and completed by James Thompson, a wealthy American.

The National Sports Museum brings together an entire collection of objects and documents illustrating the history of sport since the 16th century. Today located in the Grand Stade de Nice, about 10 minutes from the city center, the institution was nevertheless created in 1922 in Paris by the Ministry of War.

The Museum of Asian Arts in Nice offers works of art from Asian cultures, with permanent collections around Buddhism or organized by geographical area: China, Japan, India, South-East Asia. terra amata prehistory museum
The Terra Amata Prehistory Museum is located on the eponymous archaeological site, founded 400,000 years ago on Mount Boron in Nice. Excavations carried out on site have uncovered objects and shelters dating from the Lower Paleolithic. The museum is located near the port of Nice, to the east of the latter.
You will be able to see tools, animal bones, hearths and various other historical artifacts there. But it also presents another major discovery made at Terra Amata, concerning the beginnings of the domestication of fire, a major turning point in the history of Humanity.
